Maker Faire was absolutely delightful. I saw fabulous performances, tried out fascinating contraptions, and learned cool new skills. And I was able to meet and talk with forerunners of the steampunk aesthetic, whose work in many media (technology, music, assemblage, illustration, jewelry, publishing) is iconic of the genre. It was truly amazing for me to hear again and again that people admired my work, or had seen it online and were excited about meeting me in person.

We took some photos at the Faire, including the one below, featuring Tom Sepe's Whirlygig Emoto, a steam-assisted motorbike. Others feature the Neverwas Haul, "a self-propelled 3-story Victorian House, made from 75% recycled equipment and materials...from its travels around the world (i.e. oddities of the Jules Verne era including a Camera Obscura)." These are probably some of the last images of me with my current jaw, as the upcoming surgery will change the shape of my face. I am fond of my little chin, but I'm trying not to be sentimental about these things. Which photo ought I use for the Geek Girl Calender that [info]jedusor has in the works?

Thank you, sweetheart. I shouldn't be so self-conscious about smiling of late. I realized recently that, unless it's a very close shot, my braces are usually invisible, since they're ceramic on top.

Maybe if the white-balance were better, but it's a little bit overexposed for a high-profile classy calendar. Unless they can fix that with Photoshop?

Alas, I don't have Photoshop, and my photo-editing skills are weak in any case, but perhaps [info]jedusor or one of her peeps can fiddle with it.

I'd have to agree. #4 is quite nice, though I must admit, the Whirlygig shots are nice as well!

I love them all. But I just like the... intimacy... of the last one. And the way the gear tower is blurred but you're not. (Was that a Photoshop trick? It doesn't look like depth-of-field blur.) And the arm above the head. What can I tell you.

My camera uses uploading software called Picasa. I put the blur around all of them actually (I thought it vaguely calendar-ish, and it's about the only trick Picasa can do). But it shows up more in the last one because the stuff going on in the background was way too busy, and I wanted to get rid of it.

The first photo is certainly the "sexiest." (Nice leg, BTW)

But I actually thought that the pose looked a little too staged and the whole thing a bit inorganic. I very much liked the last picture more for its feeling. I can speak in no way to the form--though I did personally like the focus tricks in the last photo.

Your lovely smile always wins. A geek girl calendar (you will link it here when it's for sale, yes?) sounds like the perfect place for such a playful image.

Against the Gear Tower has a power and a presence to it, both in the long lost nostalgia it inspires and in your wistful expression. Perhaps it can be used a small, inset picture on a page?

It is a toss up between the first and last pic.
I think I like the first better, there is a playful feel to it I really like.

(It reminds me of a vintage / steam punk version of automotive pinups you see. Showing so much leg? Scandalous!! *wink*)
